Elsa Gallegos

From my earliest years, I was fascinated by and drawn to the world of art. Being brought up in the rich cultures and complex traditions of Mexico City immersed me in colors, odors and shapes that have profoundly influenced the conversion of my inner language to that of painting.

To me, painting is life itself: the dream, the challenge, the passion … the very core of living. Along the road travelled in learning how to express myself through the medium of painting, I’ve explored numerous styles and various techniques. While staying grounded in the tradition of realism, I’ve always attempted to nonetheless connect the awareness of the observer with the feelings embedded in Mexican culture. 

It’s an ongoing search, a path of discovery, a daily exercise of trial and error, all the while dealing with the challenge of surviving in a world that increasingly values the material dimension while distancing itself from those precious moments to ponder and wonder.

It’s the path my life has taken, and I am the happier for it. 

 

Desde muy temprana edad fui atraída por el arte, viviendo en una ciudad llena de cultura y tradición como la Ciudad de México, me vi inmersa en una mezcla de colores, olores y formas, que definitivamente marcaron mi manera de expresarme a través de la pintura.

El pintar es la vida, el sueño, el reto, la pasión y el por que de existir. A lo largo de mi camino por encontrar ese medio adecuado por expresarme gráficamente he incursionado en varios estilos y técnicas, pero  apegada al realismo deseando siempre penetrar en el corazón de los espectadores dejándoles un pedacito de México y su cultura pero….   continuo en la búsqueda, en la invención diaria, en el descubrimiento, en el ensayo y error de lo cotidiano, el reto por subsistir en una sociedad cada vez mas materializada y sin tiempo de  reflexión

 

Née à Mexico (Mexique), Elsa Gallegos vit et peint à Montréal, où elle a immigré en 2004. Peintre autodidacte, elle est diplômée en dessin graphique (Université, Mexico) et en infographie (Montréal).

Au cours de la dernière décennie, elle a présenté plusieurs expositions individuelles ou en duo, parmi les plus récentes : «Sueños y sentimientos» et « Latinarte» (Centre Simon Bolivar, Montréal, 2009 et 2010). Elsa a également participé à  plusieurs expositions collectives, notamment  au Centre Shenkman Arts (Ottawa) et à la Galerie Espacio México (Montréal, 2008 et 2009), Musée métiers et artisan de Québec ( Montréal 2011), Centre Gesu ( Journées de la culture 2012). 2014 Centre Henry Lemieux
